Shame of selling our soul
News that a Sydney escort agency is attempting to sell the services of a teenage virgin will nauseate most readers.Australia is considered to be a First World nation, it adopted a highly moralistic tone when it summarily banned live cattle exports to Indonesia in June based on a single report on the ABC, yet no-one in the federal government seems to have lifted an eyebrow over this twist to the world’s oldest trade.
The noisome OccupySydney brigade, moved on by the NSW police last night, might win some sympathy if they drew attention to the market in humans but its Left-wing and anarchist members seem mesmerised by people who work in other more regulated industries. For their own ideological reasons, largely connected with their fascination with the criminal class and a desire to rub shoulders with those in the lower stratum of society in the mistaken belief that this demonstrates their universal love, the Left has adopted prostitution as a banner issue. Whores and harlots are now sex workers, and forget the degradation, the drug abuse, the mental and physical abuse, that is the lot of the average prostitute. According to my colleague Nick Tabakoff writing in The Daily Telegraph, the escort agency MyOutCall Australia is offering a virgin Chinese 19-year old student for four days for $15,000. A sex industry consulting firm, Brothel Busters, says the agency wants a $2000 deposit, with the balance to be paid on receipt of services from the girl, who it is claimed, is at Sydney University. Tabakoff says a manager at the agency with whom he spoke claimed that the offer was not only genuine but “pretty common” in Sydney. Australian Family Association spokesman and research head Tim Cannon rightly said the offer it raised the ugly spectre of slavery. “The damage it does to society and human dignity can't be overstated,” he said. There are apparently no mechanisms to prevent this outrage, no laws that can be brought to bear. What sort of a society have we become when the sale of virgins is apparently “pretty common”? Where are the women’s libbers who haunt the media and attempt to belittle mainstream Australians and particularly conservative politicians with their snide jokes about budgie smugglers - missing in action. For much of the past fifty years, the so-called progressives have mocked those who warned that the fabric of society was fraying. Now it would seem that fabric is completely unravelling. It doesn’t take a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist or Hindu to say this is a disgrace, every parent would feel a profound sorrow that we have fallen to this level. Our nation is losing its soul.
