New tool to identify ‘sad’ and ‘happy’ spots

GIRLS as young as 11 are using a new digital tool to report cases of harassment in Sydney. From Kings Cross to Circular Quay, Merrick Watts finds out exactly where the ‘sad spots’ are.

SCHOOL girls aged 11 to 15 are reporting cases of harassment, according to a women’s charity.

Plan International Australia has created a new digital mapping tool to help women pinpoint danger areas for harassment in Sydney — but it seems even girls are using the map.

Chief executive Susanne Legena told Merrick Live one of the things that really struck her was “girls in their school uniforms are reporting cases where they feel harassed.”

“Girls should move between home and school without having to fell harassed”, she told Merrick Live host Merrick Watts.

Ms Legena has identified several ‘sad’ spots around the city including Kings Cross and George Street, while “some of the happy spots are Circular Quay and Oxford Street.”
