AUSTRALIAN voters aren’t angry with Malcolm Turnbull — they’re just disappointed in him, says Labor heavyweight Anthony Albanese.

“If an election was held this Saturday, Labor would win,” the Opposition Transport Spokesman told Miranda Devine on Miranda Live.

“I don’t think people are angry with Malcolm Turnbull — but they’re disappointed because he’s been unable to govern the way he would like. He’s been constrained by his own party.

“Whatever happened to the Malcolm Turnbull we thought we were getting?”

Nothing was off limits as “Albo” opened up to Devine about meeting his father for the first time in 2011, the schoolyard taunts about his Italian name and even copping the strap “pretty often” as a student.

Mr Albanese was raised by his single mother Maryanne in public housing in Sydney’s inner west, believing his Italian father had died in a car crash.

It was only as a teen, that he discovered his mother had actually conceived him out of wedlock — a major scandal in those days — and that his father was alive back in Italy.

He didn’t act on that information until his mother died in 2002, later taking his family — including then NSW Labor Minister Carmel Tebutt — to meet his father,

During his wideranging interview on Miranda Live, Mr Albanese said the Turnbull government had dropped the ball on asylum seekers.

“They could have cost the Australian taxpayer less by the settling people in third party countries, leaving asylum seekers sitting on Manus Island for five years is bad for them — and it’s bad for the Australian taxpayer,” he told Devine.

“Everyone is against people smugglers, everyone is against people getting on boats, but they (the government) should be processing them sooner rather than later.”
