MICHAELIA Cash has denied her threats to publicise unsubstantiated rumours about female staffers in Bill Shorten’s office were a “brain snap”.
Speaking on Miranda Live on Monday afternoon, the West Australian senator said former PM Tony Abbot’s suggestion her comments were a “brain snap” were incorrect.
“Absolutely not,” she said.
LISTEN TO THE FULL INTERVIEW:
“I was being asked by Senator Cameron to name staff members in my office and the point I was making you should never ever made staff members. Doug Cameron quite happily named my staff members and I was not going to stand for that line of questioning,” Cash said.
The Minister for Jobs reiterated she has retracted her comments.
“If I did offend people and as you said I withdrew the comments unreservedly full stop,” she added.”
While she stopped short of labelling herself a feminist, Cash said she was invested in working towards equality “every day of the week”.
Peta Credlin: Cash is not the powerhouse I thought she was
“Why don’t I label myself as a feminist because Miranda I believe in policy outcomes. I believe in delivering good policy. If it was merely labelling myself as a feminist would I be delivering good policy outcomes?
“I will fight for equality every single day of the week and that if means that I’m a feminist well yes I am but I definitely do not label myself ... And if that means I’m feminist well yes I am but I don’t personally label myself as one,” she added.
