MIRANDA Devine sat down with legendary entertainer and cabaret performer Carlotta to discuss same-sex marriage and children having sex changes.
Carlotta told Miranda Live the same sex marriage debate made for a tough year but was “rewarding in the end [and] I didn’t think it’d see it in my lifetime.”

But the 74-year-old transgender entertainer immediately cautioned against children undergoing sex change procedures too early.
“If you are born a normal boy or normal girl, you will decide in your teens which way you want to go and it shouldn’t be interfered with until they are in their teens.”
Carlotta, dubbed the “Queen of the Cross” rose to fame as cabaret singer at Kings Cross in the 1960s. She was an inspiration for 1994’s The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Carlotta said modern Australia has changed for the better.
“Today we can speak up,” she said. “Today we don’t have to hide in the closet. These kids of today have it so much better than I did.”
