Biggest loser winner urges people to join Wyoming community weight loss challenge
FORMER Biggest Loser winner Sharlene Westren is urging the entire Central Coast to get behind a Wyoming community weight loss challenge.
FORMER Biggest Loser winner Sharlene Westren is urging the entire Central Coast to get behind a Wyoming community weight loss challenge.
The challenge has been organised by Wyoming resident Lynn Pemberton and was launched on Wednesday night (January 29) at Wyoming Community Centre.
Ms Pemberton called on Westren's support for two reasons - she is a massive fan of the Channel 10 show and she is inspired by Westren's weight loss journey.
Westren and her family, husband Craig, son Leigh and Leigh's girlfriend at the time Lara Whalan entered the Biggest Loser family series in 2011 and won.
The entire nation followed the Lake Haven family's trials and tribulations over the three-month episode and after when Leigh and Lara's relationship broke down.
"Everybody has moved on," Westren said.
The show took six months out of their lives, but Westren said it was worth every minute.
Entering the show she weighed in at 113.3kgs and left weighing just over 64kgs.
She's put a little bit back on, but the family still train hard and watch their weight.
She continues to be a huge fan of the show and stays in contact with trainer Shannan Ponton.
"I would love to be there to act as a mentor and to inspire people to hang in there," Westren said.
Inspiring the Wyoming community is also close to her heart.
Ms Pemberton is thrilled to have her on board.
They became friends through a Wyoming gym owned by another Biggest Loser contestant Rebecca Moon.
"Last year I did the 60km walk to raise money for research into women's cancers and Sharlene, Leigh and Rebecca supported me," Ms Pemberton said.
"I have participated in a community weight loss challenge before and wanted to join another one, but couldn't find one, so I created my own.
"I am hoping the community will help reinvigorate me."
