EXCLUSIVE

BALI jail escapee Shaun Edward Davidson has revealed for the first time why he tunnelled out of Kerobokan prison, how he fears being shot dead by Indonesian police if caught in the country and that he just wants to get on with his life.

Davidson, speaking with News Corporation, says he fled jail in Bali with just 10 weeks of his sentence left because he had no faith in the Australian justice system and the courts in Perth to deal fairly with his case.

“I just want to live the rest of my life happily I’ve retired and arnt (sic) doing anything that affects anyone else badly I’m living a normal life in a new place and am happy doing so,” Davidson said.

Upon completion of his Bali sentence, for using another man’s passport and Immigration offences, he would have been immediately deported to Perth to face outstanding drugs charges.

Davidson apologised to Indonesia for his escape and said he was happy that Indonesian authorities believe he is still within the country.

On Facebook Messenger, Davidson or someone purporting to be him, using the identity Shaun Rageone Davidson, answered a series of questions today from News Corp shortly after checking in on Facebook in Barbados.

It is the same Facebook account Davidson was using while in jail prior to his escape and where he held Facebook live chats with outsiders.

Davidson told News Corp that claims by Bali’s police chief this week that the fugitive is still in Indonesia, somewhere on the border with East Timor, was good news for him.

“Them still thinking I’m in Indonesia is the best thing for me so they can keep looking and thinking I’m there,” he said.

“I’ll only be shot if I get caught inside Indonesia by Indonesian police and resist arrest none of those things will happen, I’m not in Indonesia so their (sic) police can’t and when if ever Interpol come knocking I’m not gonna resist I’ve never resisted arrest.”

Davidson said he had no faith in the Australian system to “hand down proper justice (a not-guilty verdict)”.

He then added that the Perth courts would believe a police officer over the evidence of a convicted criminal, even if there was no evidence.

“If I wasn’t going to be deported to face the awall (sic) system in Perth I would never have escaped and I’m sorry to the Indonesians for that.”

Davidson maintained he was not in Indonesia, saying that where he is now, his case is not news.

“I’m not looking over my shoulder constantly where I am this isn’t even news,” he said.

“I want to get on with my life This shouldn’t define who I am.”

But despite checking in via Facebook in Barbados yesterday, at Café Luna, where he posted “Dinner time I’m starving” he has provided no photographic evidence of being there.

He claimed to have eaten “rack of lamb grilled with sweet potato crust and balsamic syrup”.

Nor has ever posted any photographs of himself at any of the European or Dubai locations where he has claimed to have been since his brazen escape on June 19.

Earlier he checked in at First Fitness Gym in Oistins in Barbados, saying: “Afternoon training session”.

His most recent post was a mock-up of a Shawshank Redemption move poster, with Davidson’s superimposed next to legendary actor Morgan Freeman.

Asked by News Corporation for a photograph of himself on the run, he replied: “$$$$$ can make that happen. No one gets recent pics of me at the moment.”

“I’m happy for Ppl (people) to think I’m in Indonesia if news companies want something from me they gotta give me something.”

Bali’s police chief, Petrus Reinhard Golose, said this week that Davidson was believed to be within Indonesia.

“We are focusing the search in the border between Indonesia and East Timor,” he said.

Two of the four men who escaped the jail by crawling out a disused sewage tunnel were caught several days later in East Timor.

A third, a Malaysian man on drugs charges, is now believed to be back in Malaysia and Mr Golose said there were difficulties in getting him extradited.

“You media outlets always ask me to prove this and prove that what you all don’t realise is that I don’t care and is good for me for police to think I’m still in Indonesia just means Im safe where I am for longer Ppl will believe what they want to believe all I know is I’m trying to live my life not prove this and that to Ppl hahaha,” Davidson told News Corp.

Since his escape, Davidson has taunted police in posts from two Facebook accounts purporting to be his.

On August 15 he wrote: “Run run as fast as you can you can’t catch me im the gingerbread man”, on the same day posting a mock up of a Where’s Wally poster including his photo.

Two days earlier he told of his share market exploits: “loving my shares in avz at the moment but sill so much more to make fuck I’m good”.

The week before he was supposedly checking in for a beer with a mate in Bangkok and before that posted a photo of an empty airline seat with the comment: “another day another country and check out my leg room hahaha enjoy life peace.”

In addition to his own Facebook page, Davidson also has a fan page – Fans of Shaun Rageone Davidson – believed to be administered by family members.

“This page is to show support for this all around good guy please post your well wishes to him and share this page show him your support.

The Australian escapee has bewildered Australian and Indonesian authorities by not once but twice doing a disappearing act each more amazing than the last.

Authorities revealed that last week, on Indonesia’s Independence Day, Davidson would have received a sentence remission and been freed had he had not escaped.
