Australian cinemas to run Boxing Day blockbusters a day early

NEED to escape the rellies? You're in luck as select cinemas will open Christmas Day afternoon and show the Boxing Day blockbusters a day early.

MOVIE lovers will find an extra present under their tree on Christmas Day - the big Boxing Day blockbusters, a day early.

Select cinemas around the nation will open on Christmas afternoon, showing new films that technically don't "open" until December 26.

These include Ben Stiller's fantastical adventure The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Disney animation Frozen, the Judi Dench drama/comedy Philomena and Australian-made WWII drama The Railway Man, starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth.

In fact, all Boxing Day releases except The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be on show Christmas Day, along with movie hits already in season such as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, American Hustle, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and The Gilded Cage.
