NINE days after her body was found, Lisa Keem's remains were formally identified yesterday as a timeline of her ex-husband's swift exit from Australia under the watch of police emerged.

Sydney man Richard Giardina, 39, was quizzed by Queensland Police about the whereabouts of his ex-wife soon after she vanished last Saturday from Hervey Bay.

A bushwalker found a badly burned body near Kempsey on Sunday but it was only on Wednesday morning that NSW Police realised the body was probably that of 33-year-old Ms Keem, a former Sydney corporate high flyer.

By the time police realised it was Ms Keem, who moved to Hervey Bay and opened a dog grooming salon, Mr Giardina had left Australia.

It is understood he boarded an Emirates flight to Dubai last Tuesday and, after a brief stopover, continued on to Italy, where he has family in Sicily.

Having identified Ms Keem's badly burned body, it is understood police will now alert the Australian Federal Police so further inquiries can be made overseas.

A visitor to a Facebook site set up to find her and dedicated to the hunt for Mr Giardina, questioned how he could so easily slip away.

"So, the police spoke to him and then he left the country afterwards. What sort of police force do you have up there?" Ian Saunders asked.

"Key suspect who has spent a lot of time overseas - and not considered a flight risk? Really, good wishes tracking him down."

Her close friend Amy Walsh questioned Mr Giardina's motives for leaving Australia.

"The option he chose was to run away overseas when he knew full well his wife was missing - and if I am not mistaken the police informed him of that when they phoned to ask Lisa's whereabouts," she wrote on a message board.

Queensland Police admitted last Friday they wanted to speak to Mr Giardina again but were "unable to do so at this time".

The Facebook page, being used in an international hunt for Mr Giardina, last night had 3428 members.

Police have established how Ms Keem died but were yesterday tight lipped, only saying a post mortem indicated she had been murdered.

"The NSW Police Force has been working with the Queensland Police Service since last Wednesday, when inquiries indicated the body might be that of Ms Keem," a police statement said.

"Detectives believe a 39-year-old man, who left Sydney on an international flight on Tuesday last week, might be able to assist them with inquiries into Ms Keem's death."

Ms Keem's friends have asked supporters to wear hot pink nail polish as a show of support.
