HUNDREDS of people have flocked to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to enjoy a night under the stars for the Symbolic Sleep Out on Anzac Day eve.

The sold-out event is a symbolic gesture to the significance of Gallilopi and includes special performances and Anzac activities ahead of the centenary of the Gallilopi landing tomorrow.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Director of Sales and Marketing Greg Daven said 500 tickets had been sold and it had been an overwhelming response for the events first year.

“We thought maybe 250 people would come along and we had 500 tickets for sale and they are all sold,” he said.

“We hoped it would be this successful but this is beyond our expectations.”

The children will enjoy an eco ranger tour tonight while the adults watch an Anzac documentary.

Blinky Bill will also make an appearance before lights are turned out at 11pm.

The crowd will then be woken at 3am and make their way to the Currumbin dawn service at 5am.
