'Utter disbelief':

Workers shaken after yowie sighting

Words: Rachel RoselProducer: Andrew Piva

Three men were left stunned when they came across what they could only describe as a yowie while driving home from work inland from the Sunshine Coast.

The plantation workers were returning to their base camp at Jimna when they caught sight of a “slouched over figure” standing under a street light.

They initially thought it was a boar or a really big animal until they got closer and saw it run off in a "very apelike way".

The men recalled the creature standing up and turning to look at them, describing it as having "very long arms", an "apelike" face and shape, and covered in "dark reddish hair".

One of the workers, Seamus FitzGerald, said he didn't previously believe in yowies and described the experience as "surreal".

I’ve never really had a paranormal or strange experience like that before. I hardly slept that night and the feeling was overwhelming that I had seen something that I never believed in previously.

Another one of the workers, Stirling Slocock-Bennett, said the group was filled with fear and confusion when they were faced with the creature.

We were in utter disbelief of what we were seeing. It was definitely a scary moment for me. As I said, I was so confused and shook from what we were seeing...

Despite a small population of just 91 people, Jimna has been the location of other sightings. In fact, the Sunshine Coast is considered a hotbed of yowie actvity.

After the experience, Mr FitzGerald said each of the men had changed their minds about yowies and planned on exploring the world of the mysterious creature.
