Keep your family safe from fire

The #1 thing to keep everyone safe is ensure your smoke alarms are working. Interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms will give you an earlier warning if there is a fire.

CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS

It’s important to know how to get out of each room in the case of fire. Think about different exits from each room, how you might break through a window, and how you could leave an upstairs bedroom.

PLAN YOUR FAMILY'S ESCAPE ROUTE

Practising your fire escape plan can be turned into a game for kids. Ask them for ideas on how to leave each room, time them leaving, and ensure everyone knows the safe meeting spot.

PRACTICE WITH YOUR FAMILY

Queensland Fire and Emergency said a big danger is battery chargers that don’t match the voltage of the lithium battery device. “Only use the charger that was purchased with the device” said Acting Superintendent Daren Mallouk.

FIX ANY SAFETY ISSUES

It’s important not to scare children, but keep them prepared.  If they are old enough, teach them how to dial 000 and ensure they know their address.
