Flying taxis for 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games

Autonomous aerial taxis could carry passengers through the skies of South East Queensland during the 2032 Olympic Games, in a major business deal inked ahead of the global event.

Wisk Aero's deal with Council of Mayors SEQ is to trial its all-electric, self-flying air taxis, potentially delivering hundreds of new jobs and revolutionising public transport.

While there’s still plenty of work to do around regulation and safety, the prospect of having air taxis operating between venues during the Brisbane 2032 Games is really exciting.

Adrian SchrinnerBrisbane Lord Mayor

Cr Schrinner said advanced air technology was emerging in places like Singapore, Paris and Los Angeles and he would love to see it in Brisbane by 2032.

The Council of Mayors and Wisk will engage the region’s councils on the introduction of autonomous air taxis.

Cr Schrinner explained that the collaborative approach will be critical to the industry’s investment and rollout across the region in the future.

As a result of the deal Wisk will expand its presence in Australia and hire several new staff in Queensland.

This is an exciting time for us, as we continue our momentum and expand our global presence. We look forward to making safe, all-electric, autonomous flight a reality in Australia.
