MACKAY'S ICONIC BEACH HORSE RACES RETURN
A race combining the best of Queensland's coastline with the thrill of galloping horses will make a comeback with a European twist after years in hiatus.

One of the biggest social events on North Queensland's calendar, the Mackay Beach Horse Racing Festival was founded by the late Mick Pope back in 2012.

But the event has been on pause since 2018 after Purple Betty Productions, which ran the 2017 races, said fence-jumpers “killed” the small family-run operation.
Sound Australia is now set to relaunch the Mackay Beach Horse Races, expecting to draw more than 5000 attendees to the region.
Sound Australia Queensland CEO James Dein said the beach races would be back with a “big bang” after borders reopened.
We’ll be taking inspiration from premium beach clubs across Europe, running a fully catered Quarterdeck, Fashions on the Sand, an evening rock stage as a pre-event party starter, plus a post-event concert and recovery day.

With three days of "party, party, party and welcoming folks from all over Australia", he said the races were scheduled for June 10-12.
