Queanbeyan servo killer admits stabbing Alameddine brother in wild jailhouse brawl

They are two of Goulburn Supermax’s most high profile inmates — but one inmate definitely came off better than the other after a vicious prison brawl inside a small exercise yard.

Gun supplier in Cheng murder sentenced to 13 years

An ultra-violent inmate locked up for decades over the brutal ISIS-inspired murder of a Queanbeyan service station worker has confessed to stabbing one of NSW’s most feared prisoners in an audacious jailhouse brawl.

The man, now aged in his 20s and who can only be referred to as DM by court order, labelled Goulburn Supermax kingpin Talal Alameddine a “f—king gronk” and said he “hoped he copped it good” after stabbing the 31-year-old three times in the neck and face inside a prison exercise yard in January 2022.

Alameddine, the younger brother of crime clan boss Rafat, has been behind bars since 2016 for supplying the gun used to kill NSW Police accountant Curtis Cheng, while DM was just 16 years old when he stabbed Caltex service station attendant Zeeshan Akbar to death in 2017.

DM made headlines again in 2020 when he held prison guard Nathan Fuller hostage inside Kempsey jail during a violent, six-hour stand-off with authorities.

Both men are currently housed in the purpose-built high-risk management unit in Goulburn jail.

Corrective Services NSW intelligence reports detail how Alameddine has established himself as a major player behind bars in recent years, overtaking other big names including Brothers 4 Life founder Bassam Hamzy, to have the support of the wider Muslim prison population and become one of the most powerful and influential prisoners in the state.

However, documents tendered to the NSW District Court reveal DM developed a grudge against Alameddine after he discovered the latter had been “talking shit” about DM’s so-called jail gang, called ‘Family For Life’.

“I took him, I took the Alameddine out,” DM told his father in a recorded jail call days after the January 2022 attack.

“He’s a f—king dog and I took him out the c—t. He wants to talk shit about my family and that … I’m in the gang now so I can’t f—king let that shit slide, I’ve got to take him out so I took him out.”

DM also sent handwritten letters to other inmates and alleged members of the gang, including one in which he said “f—k the Alameddines. Death 2 them all.”

Court documents said DM and Alameddine had been authorised to spend time together just two weeks before the attack, and had already had one morning in the same exercise yard without incident.

But the court heard on the morning of January 23, DM concealed a makeshift shiv fashioned out of a yellow highlighter casing inside his clothing before entering the yard for his pre-approved exercise time.

The two men spoke congenially for more than an hour before DM snapped, stabbing Alameddine once in the neck and twice in the face in an area of the yard not covered by CCTV footage.

Alameddine pulled out his own jailhouse shiv and attempted to defend himself but left only superficial marks on DM’s face.

The court heard another inmate in a neighbouring unit alerted prison guards.

DM surrendered when tactical officers arrived on scene and Alameddine was removed from the yard without further incident.

He was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital where he received seven stitches to the three wounds, the deepest of which left a 1.5cm-deep hole just below his jawline.

DM was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He had been due to stand trial in a Sydney court last week but entered an 11th hour guilty plea.

Court documents obtained exclusively by The Daily Telegraph reveal DM was exposed to extreme levels of violence as a child and was regularly bashed by his father.

His lengthy criminal history began at the age of 15 when he was first arrested for assault and intimidation but his offending quickly escalated to break-ins and kidnapping, which saw him sentenced to jail time in juvenile correctional centres.

DM claims he was the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of female prison staff while behind bars.

Psychological reports tendered to the court reveal DM has since been diagnosed with complex developmental trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.

He will be sentenced on August 23.
