TWO cyclists have been critically injured after being hit by a car in an incident north of Brisbane this morning.
Multiple emergency crews were called to the corner of Morayfield and Walkers roads, Morayfield, after a white ute crashed into two male cyclists about 5.32am.
It is believed the cyclists had been riding on the footpath, while the ute had been travelling southbound along Morayfield Rd.
The cyclists, aged in their 20s and 40s, were rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition, with significant leg injuries.
The three people who were travelling in the ute were also taken to hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries,
A couple who prefer to remain anonymous, were at the scene in tears when The Sunday Mail arrived.
They said they’d been driving along Morayfield Rd earlier this morning and had recognised the white ute at the crash scene.
“We drove along earlier this morning and saw they’d cut the road off so had to drive around the long way, then as we came back just before we pulled over because we recognised the car,” a woman said.
“We don’t know anything, police won’t tell us anything.”
Tough Tyres on Morayfield Owner Ali Rostami said when he arrived at work there were police everywhere, blocking off the main road.
“I came into work at about 6.15am and checked the CCTV footage,” Mr Rostami said.
”It was really sad and quite scary to watch.
”You can see one of the guys was pinned underneath the car”.
