Two men have been arrested and charged after a ritzy Italian restaurant linked to convicted drug trafficker Daniel Milos was shot up.

Police were called to Barolos on Sherwood Rd at Toowong during the early hours of Sunday morning after several shots were fired into the building.

Barolos operates from the same site as Milos’ original restaurant, Mariosarti, which closed down after it was raided by police in 2017.

Nobody was in the restaurant when two men were believed to have fired through the glass at 2am.

Police have now charged two men, Blake Vincent Verhelst, 25, of Eagleby and William Cody Smith, 41, of Mount Gravatt.

Verhelst has been charged with wilful damage and dangerous conduct with a weapon while Smith is facing charges of wilful damage, dangerous conduct with a weapon and possessing explosives (ammunition).

Verhelst and Smith, who are both on return to prison warrants, did not appear in court or apply for bail when their matters were mentioned in court today.

According to bench charge sheets Smith is accused of engaging in conduct with a shotgun that was likely to cause the destruction of glass panels.

Verhelst is accused of using a shotgun in a manner likely to alarm another person.

Both are charged with damaging a glass door at 41 Sherwood Rd Toowong, where the restaurant is located.

It’s further alleged that Smith was found with a shotgun shell and five bullets in Toowong yesterday.

Their matters were adjourned to next month by Magistrate Barbara Tynan.

Milos was one of four people charged in relation to a drug trafficking operation in 2017, with police alleging the restaurateur was dealing cocaine from Mariosarti.

Court documents revealed Uber Eats bags were used to pick up drugs and Milos used the code words “ragu” and “table of eight” to describe cocaine.

Milos pleaded guilty to 13 charges – including ten counts of supplying cocaine – earlier this year in what police described as one of the highest value drug busts in Queensland.

At the time, police said they had seized $750,000 of drugs in up to a dozen raids, including one that saw police swarm into Milos’ restaurant in front of lunchtime diners.

The raids followed a 14-month undercover sting involving phone taps, surveillance and controlled buys.

Milos sold Mariosarti after his arrest but later returned to the same site trading as Barolos.
