Bomb squad called in after ‘suspicious device’ found

Several streets north of Brisbane have been reopened after earlier being cordoned off following the discovery of a ‘suspicious device’ in a local park.

The bomb squad was called into examine a ‘suspicious device’ found in a local park on Brisbane’s northside on Saturday night.

Police initially enacted an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act after the ‘device’ was discovered in the Arthur Davis Park in Sandgate.

The PSPA was revoked just before 9pm.

An exclusion zone was set up spanning through Flinders Pde, between Eighth Ave and Seventh Ave, including part of the foreshore.

Police advised local residents to follow the advice of emergency services on the ground, while other members of the public were asked to avoid the area.

Some residents were door-knocked to be made aware of the situation, but nobody was evacuated from their homes.

One local said he saw sniffer dogs in the area, while those living close by were told to move their cars from the waterfront.

Specialist police were called in to examine the ‘device’ and ultimately deemed it inactive and not harmful to the community.
