A CANNON HILL homeowner has told of her terror at being targeted by a gang of suspected thieves.

Police are yet to make an arrest after a young male was caught on camera trying to enter Sylvia van Kuyk’s home in Brisbane’s south in the early hours of Monday morning.

CCTV obtained by The Courier-Mail shows a young man wearing nothing but runners, black shorts and gloves opening the screen door of the Shrapnel Road, Cannon Hill home and fleeing after being disturbed by the homeowner.

Ms van Kuyk, 60, told The Courier-Mail she believed the man was part of a group of boys who knocked on her front door late last week asking for directions to the local train station.

She said the group had also approached other homes before leaving in a vehicle.

“I feel still very violated … these kids have made me feel very fearful now,” Ms van Kuyk said.

“And I’m more suspicious, sad place to be, but feel people need to be more aware and watchful, so we can keep our area safe.”

A Queensland Police spokesperson said no arrests had been made and because the case was at such an early stage they did not yet know if it was connected to other reports of people scoping out homes and cars in the area.

According to QPS data there have been 36 Unlawful Entry offence charges in the Morningside police division since 3 January.
