A Brisbane dentist whose husband left her for her best friend has been fined $800 for breaching a domestic violence order by sending him abusive text messages.

In several of the texts, the spurned woman referred to her husband’s new partner as a slut, Brisbane Magistrates Court heard on today.

The dentist, who cannot be named, on Thursday pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order between January 31 and February 20 this year.

In one of six text messages she attached a photo depicting an Australia Post envelope and a clip seal bag, which she claimed contained faeces, the court heard.

In part of another message to her ex-husband, the woman said: “Is your slut feeling proud as punch?”

Another text message said: “Just heard your father is marrying a slut too”.

In a February 18 text, the dentist called her husband sneaky, deceptive and untrustworthy, and in other texts she made reference to their children.

The woman’s barrister told the court her husband had left her for her best friend.

“She’s been bitter, feeling betrayed by her husband and best friend,” the barrister said.

She had since recognised she had a problem dealing with anger and had had 10 counselling sessions.

The woman had also been formally cautioned by a health practitioners’ regulatory body and had suffered professional embarrassment, the lawyer said.

The woman, in her mid-40s, had a refugee background but had gone on to have a very good education, graduating from university with a dentistry degree and a medal.

The mother-of-two now owned a successful dental surgery, working there full-time and employing six staff, the court heard.

Magistrate Rosemary Gilbert said the end of the woman’s relationship was undoubtedly traumatic, but her response to it was entirely wrong.

“The very reason the domestic violence order was made is to ensure that your behaviours do not go beyond bounds...” Ms Gilbert said.

“You’ve clearly done that.

“You’ve put your career, your business at risk by acting this way.”

Taking into account her lack of previous convictions and the steps she had taken to address anger, the magistrate said no conviction would be recorded.
