A MAN is in police custody after allegedly attacking a Caboolture security guard and beating him so badly he was left with critical head injuries.
Witnesses described how the security guard was hit with a chair but police will allege the man smashed the chair on the ground before punching the guard in the head.
A police spokesperson said a 30-year-old man was “assisting with inquiries” following the incident at Caboolture Square this afternoon.
“Around 1.40pm, a man threw a chair at a shop inside the King St centre before being approached by a security guard,” a statement released by police said.
“The man punched the 38-year-old security guard in the face, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the ground.
“The victim suffered severe head injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.
“Investigations are continuing.”
One witness described the scene at the shopping centre.
“Security guy was knocked out on the ground. Chair was split into pieces. Security guy was bleeding from the head and not moving – not sure if he’s ok,” a woman posted on social media.
“They put a thermal blanket thing around him. Had to leave when ambos and cops were arriving. The guy who did it had already taken off.”
