Detectives and specialist police are investigating after a man was assaulted and abducted from a Gold Coast motel before being driven to Brisbane.

The 38-year-old man was struck in the face with possibly a hammer moments before he was abducted by a group of men from the Miami Shore Apartments and Motel about 11.30pm Saturday.

The men stormed the Mudgeeraba man’s motel room before they forced him into a luxury car.

Police say the group stole his wallet and drove him in a black BMW from the motel to Auchenflower in Brisbane’s inner west.

The group reportedly stole money from the man’s bank accounts on the way before they forced him out of the car on Haig Rd, where he was able to alert a local resident who immediately contacted police.

Officers located the black BMW at the intersection of Duke and Juliette Streets, Greenslopes at around 4.10am.

A 40-year-old man, found with the vehicle, is assisting police with their investigations and is currently in hospital for treatment for unrelated matters.

The Gold Coast South Criminal Investigation Branch, along with detectives from South Brisbane are investigating the incident.

The 38-year-old man is recovering in hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say it is still unclear if it was a random incident, or if the man knew his attackers.

Police are calling for anyone with information or dashcam vision related to the incident to contact Policelink on 131444.
