One of Queensland’s most notorious prisoners, who is serving an indefinite sentence for killing two men behind bars, has been slapped with another jail term for throwing faeces at correctional officers.
Jason John “Waxy” Nixon, 50, has spent most of his adult life in jail and is serving an indefinite prison term for the murder of fellow prisoner and notorious double murderer Mark Day, whom he beat to death in the exercise yard of the maximum-security unit at the Wacol prison in Brisbane’s southwest.

He is also serving time for the group murder of prisoner Bart Vosmaer, who was set upon in the prison gym and beaten to death with free weights by six prisoners including Nixon.
In 1997, Nixon broke out of prison with “Postcard Bandit” Brendan Abbott under the cover of outside helpers who shot at prison guards.
Nixon, who earned his nickname Waxy for his love of surfing, was tracked down two weeks later at a luxury Sunshine Coast resort and slapped with an attempted-murder charge for trying to shoot one of the detectives who recaptured him.
Nixon today appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court via video link from prison where he pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting two prison guards in October last year.
Nixon, a notoriously violent prisoner, was under heavy guard and escorted into the video link booth by five correctional officers and shackled to the table for the duration of his sentence hearing.
Police prosecutor Lauren Collins said in October last year, Nixon pelted two correctional officers with faeces when they came to deliver lunch to his cell.
“At approximately 12.05pm on October 29, 2019 the victims were delivering lunches to the prisoners within the correctional centre,” acting Sergeant Collins said.
“The victims approached the defendant’s cell and have instructed him to move to rear of cell prior to placing food box on the hatch.
“The defendant has complied and moved to the rear of his cell, the defendant has taken his food box and then rushed back towards the open hatch and has thrown faeces at the victims hitting them on the chest and face area.”
The prosecutor said Nixon had six pages of “detestable criminal history replete with like offending”.
The history includes incidents in which he threw urine at a jail nurse and attacked a guard with a razor blade.
When Magistrate Penelope Hay asked Nixon if there was anything he would like to say, he responded: “No I’ve got nothing to say about it.”
“I’m doing an indefinite sentence so yeah … it’s all over,” he said.
Magistrate Hay said Nixon’s offending was serious.
“It is clear from listening to you today as you describe it “it’s all over” that you are serving an indefinite sentence for serious offending and there is a sense that there is not much impact to you in terms of the sentence that the court might impose today,” she said.
“Of course there is the glimmer of hope to you in 2034 which I’m sure feels like a long time away but as you get closer to it the conduct that you have engaged in the last few years and more recently will start to hit home for you because it will be precisely that sort of conduct the parole board will be looking at to determine whether or not they should give you the opportunity of being released on parole.
“So it is of course important to bear that in mind.”
Nixon said it was unlikely his indefinite sentence would be overturned.
“They might if you keep your nose clean,” Magistrate Hay said.
“You never know.”
Nixon responded: “It’s all over. Thanks for being optimistic though, Judge.”
Nixon pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful assault and was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
