Two witnesses who claim to have identified the person who allegedly shot a man in the chest at Margate on Wednesday did not call police or an ambulance, a court has heard.
Lewis Raffin, 39, of Kippa-Ring appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm.
On Wednesday, a man with a bullet wound to his chest was dropped at Redcliffe Hospital and police later said the man was in a critical condition.
Later that day a crime scene was set up at a house in Dodds St, Margate, where the shooting is believed to have occurred, with a second crime scene at a car at another location.
Police later released a photo of dark coloured Mazda 6.
Magistrate Judith Daley said two independent witnesses, who allegedly identified Raffin, dropped the victim at the hospital.
A defence lawyer who made a bail application said Raffin was known to people in the Margate house and a medical prescription in his name was found there.
She said identification was not an issue.
The lawyer said Raffin had not made any admissions and she questioned why witnesses at the Margate residence would not immediately call for police and medical attention for the victim.
She said it delayed the police investigation.
“There seems to be more to this story,’’ the lawyer said.
Magistrate Daley said they were very serious offences and the person who had been shot had also identified Raffin.
Ms Daley said the fact that the gun used in the shooting had not been found raised an issue of a risk of endangering the safety of the public if Raffin was granted bail.
Ms Daley refused bail, given the serious nature of the charges, and adjourned the case until October 22.
