A SYDNEY man who is charged with kidnapping and torturing an Ipswich event planner and his female partner last year, and allegedly giving one of them poison, has been remanded in custody.

Justin John Kuhner, 40, of Fairfield in NSW, was extradited to Queensland on Wednesday night, to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on 16 charges.

Kuhner is alleged to have committed the offences, with others, knowing that it was at the direction of a criminal organisation, according to the charges.

Kuhner is charged with breaking into the Huxham St, Raceview home and event planning business premises of Eduardus Groenewegan and Caroll Dufailly at night, while armed, on October 25, last year.

It is alleged he was armed with a weapon, he used violence and damaged property.

He is charged with unlawfully detaining and depriving Mr Groenewegan and Ms Dufailly of their liberty and torturing each of them, between October 24 and 27, last year.

He also is charged with kidnapping both of them and assaulting Ms Dufailly, a Belgian-born model, causing her bodily harm, while armed and in company.

Kuhner is also charged with armed robbery with violence, in the company of other offenders, while using a firearm and personal violence against the couple.

He is also facing charges of extortion with threats to cause serious personal injury to the pair of alleged victims.

Another charge alleges Kuhner poisoned Mr Groenewegan with ammonia, between October 24 and 27, last year and also caused him grievous bodily harm.

Other charges allege Kuhner falsely represented himself to be a Queensland police officer and that he disguised his face, with the intention of committing an indictable offence.

Kuhner’s lawyer told Brisbane Magistrate Anthony Gett that Kuhner had a number of co-accused.

Kuhner did not apply for bail and the case was remanded to August 5, in Ipswich Magistrates Court.
