Former Titans cheerleaders give evidence at Jayden Moorea murder committal

Former cheerleaders have told a court of the last days of teammate Breeana Robinson, including one who was allowed to testify behind a privacy screen.

Former Gold Coast Titans cheerleaders have told a court of the last days of teammate Breeana Robinson, whose cruise ship crooner boyfriend is accused of throwing her off a high-rise balcony.

Eight ex-cheerleaders have given evidence at the murder committal of Jayden Moorea, previously known as Dan Shearin, 47.

One gave evidence behind a privacy screen after a medical certificate was tendered to the court saying she could suffer “severe emotional trauma”.

Ms Robinson, 21, plunged to her death from the 11th floor Southport unit she shared with Shearin in January 2013.

She had been to what the court heard was a “particularly intense and hard” Titans cheerleader training session on the night she died.

Defence barrister Angus Edwards, instructed by Hannay Lawyers, asked the women about the closeness of their friendship with Ms Robinson and her demeanour.

Most said they were not close friends and that she was quiet and kept to herself.

One of the women, Hayley Moules, was grilled by Mr Edwards about her police statement in which she said that Ms Robinson had become withdrawn in the lead-up to the incident.

Under questioning, she clarified that she meant that she had seen Ms Robinson had been speaking closely with her cousin.

“I remember her and Bianca (her cousin) having a quiet moment or talk the night of training before the incident,” Ms Moules said.

Another former cheerleader, Lauren Boyd, disagreed that Ms Robinson was quiet.

“She was very bubbly, very friendly, always smiling,” Ms Boyd said.

All of the former cheerleaders said Ms Robinson had not confided about her relationship with Shearin or other personal issues.

The hearing has been adjourned until Thursday.
