A heartbreaking note left at a makeshift shrine where Kate Leadbetter died with her partner Matty Fields has revealed her touching last words to one of her closest friends.

Horror crash scene draws residents in mourning

A touching note left by a close friend of Kate Leadbetter at the site of Tuesday’s horror Alexandra Hills crash has detailed the final words she heard from her mate in the days before she died.

“My heart feels like it has been broken into a million pieces,” said a note signed by “Leith.”

“When I left your place on Sunday, your last words to me were ‘I love spending time with you, you fill my cup’.

“I will hold onto those last words forever.”

“Matty even though you were a sh-t beer pong partner, I know you were going to be an amazing dad.”

Kate’s aunty has also revealed the woman’s father is in “a state of shock” and can’t speak about the death of his beloved daughter.

Ms Leadbetter — who was six-months pregnant — was killed when an allegedly stolen Toyota LandCruiser ploughed into her and her partner, Matthew Fields, in Brisbane’s east on Tuesday afternoon.

The pair – aged 31 and 37 respectively – were walking their two dogs when police claim the 17-year-old driver hit them near their Alexandra Hills home after 5pm.

The teen has been charged with murder and driving offences, after he allegedly fled the scene and was filmed in a road rage incident with another driver minutes earlier.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Police Commissioner Katrina Carroll on Friday laid flowers at the Alexandra Hills site of the horror crash.

Ms Palaszczuk and Ms Carroll attended the site silently and left a bunch of red, pink and purple flowers tied with pink bows.

The flowers joined hundreds of others as a bright display lit up the corner of Finucane Road and Vienna Road in memory of the young family.

Toys of all sizes, including two CareFlight bears accompanied heartfelt notes, a pair of baby socks, candles and lanterns at the site.

“May you Rest In Peace,” one note read.

“We will make sure you all will be remembered forever and your darling baby.”

Another note read: “we are heart broken and hope you can Rest In Peace.”

Locals continued to attend the memorial, where they laid flowers, lit candles and said prayers throughout Friday.

Local MP Andrew Laming spent time talking to community members there.

“It’s an intersection that we all drive so many times we all feel like we could have been that person,” he said.

“It’s a huge group of people affected by it.”

One man, who brought flowers from his garden, said he recognised the couple.

“We used to see them walk past our house,” he said.

He, like many community members, was concerned about the fate of the 17-year-old driver who allegedly hit the couple with a stolen car.

“You have a choice you can make your own choices,” he said.

Ms Leadbetter’s aunty, Danielle Leadbetter, said the family never got a chance to say goodbye.

“John (Ms Leadbetter’s father) is just in shock – he can’t even talk,” Danielle said.

“The whole family is in exactly the same state. It’s a state of shock.

“If someone is sick and you know that they’re going to die, you can prepare for that. You can’t prepare for a tragedy like this.”

Danielle said a number of families affected by youth crime had contacted them with the aim of strengthening Queensland’s laws.

More than 75,000 signatures had been placed on a petition calling on tougher bail laws.

“I have been contacted by numerous other people who have been affected in a similar way to what has occurred over the last few days,” Danielle said.

“They’ve just said ‘we want to be with you’ – we want our voices heard and we don’t believe we got justice.

“Hopefully no one else has to be traumatised by an event like this.”

One of the Leadbetter’s family homes was quiet yesterday, as mourners brought a bouquet of flowers and left them outside.

Ms Leadbetter’s dog, Frankie, which became lost after her and her partner’s death, has been returned to the family after being taken to the vet yesterday.
