Police allege Scruton carried on the business of trafficking diazepam, often branded as Valium, between July 2019 and September this year at the office of Dr John Robert Ullman in Chermside.

The skin cancer doctor is accused of supplying testosterone, diazepam and other drugs to dozens of different people since January 2018.

Scruton, who is listed as unemployed and lives in a Hamilton apartment, is also charged with supplying diazepam to unknown people on 15 occasions from July 2019 to August this year.

He was arrested on Wednesday by organised crime group officers.

Police allege he was found in possession of testosterone, a phone used in connection with trafficking and a pair of knuckle dusters.

It’s alleged he possessed cash, being the proceeds of drug crime, in August.

In making a bail application the duty solicitor said Scruton was alleged to be one of 70 people going to Dr Ullman’s clinic and “walking away with items”.

“So Dr Ullman is certainly in a far more significant category of offending appearing to be what would be described as the top of the food chain for this offence,” he said.

Police prosecutor Sgt Matt Kahler opposed bail but asked that Scruton be prohibited from contacting Dr Ullman, who was released on Wednesday on $50,000 bail, if it was granted.

Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne said trafficking in drugs was one of Queensland’s most serious offences, carrying a 25 year maximum jail term.

“To call a spade a spade it’s having a good bat at being the second highest in the tree for seriousness in this state I would think,” he said.

Mr Byrne denied the bail application on the basis Scruton posed an unacceptable risk if released.

“Police are alleging the defendant‘s behaviour is erratic as a result of his ongoing drug abuse and he demonstrates a propensity for violence,” he said.

He remanded Scruton in custody until October 19.
