A Gold Coast dentist who was cleared last year of bashing a Grindr date over a bag of stolen sex toys is facing drugs charges.

Dr Hilary Knight has pleaded not guilty in Southport Magiatrates Court to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing a drug pipe after a police raid on his luxury Broadbeach apartment in August 2018.

His friend and flatmate, Todd Muir, told the court he was watching Wentworth on TV when cops raided the unit.

He said Dr Knight came home after about 10 minutes after the raid had started and “got a bloody shock”.

“He was sh**ting himself the whole time,” Mr Muir told the court.

“It was a huge shock. They (police) just told him they had a warrant to search his belongings and apartment.”

The court heard a glass pipe and the hallucinogenic drug Dimethyltryptamine were found in the apartment.

The hearing comes after Dr Knight was cleared last October of assaulting a man who had been lured to a luxury Surfers Paradise unit with messages on dating app Grindr from an account named “Big Top” to recover a stolen bag of sex toys.

The charges related to an alleged incident at the Q1 super tower a month before the Broadbeach drug raid.

Charges against Dr Knight, including robbery and assault occasioning bodily harm, were dropped in the Southport District Court.

His co-accused, Samantha Lee Pederson and Braddon Ian Carter, both pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily and demanded property by menaces.

Detective Senior-Constable Chad Lonergan told the court he found items including a collar, two ice pipes and a clipseal bag containing a ‘paste’ which he suspected was drugs during the raid.

The hearing is continuing
