An elite bikie-busting Gold Coast police officer is one of two cops suspended amid a major drug trafficking investigation.

The heavily tattooed senior constable, 28, who was serving with the Rapid Action Patrol squad, was among nine people detained in drug raids across the Gold Coast and Brisbane on Saturday.

Police said the Coast officer and another male senior constable from the Central Region, along with a former officer, were caught up in the raids and immediately suspended from duty.

They were the culmination of a top-level four-month investigation into the possession and supply of dangerous drugs, police said.

“Operation Sierra Edgehill commenced in March this year by officers from the Ethical Standards Command with support from the Organised Crime Gangs Group and the Gold Coast Police District in relation to the alleged trafficking of dangerous drugs,” a police spokesman said.

“A 28-year-old male senior constable from South Eastern Region and 29-year-old male senior constable from Central Region have been suspended from duty.

“As this matter is under investigation by Ethical Standards Command it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.

“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct. This does not mean the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.”

No charges were reported to have been laid against the officers as of Saturday night.

Police sources said the officers involved were believed to be ‘mixing with the wrong crowd’.

The RAP squad, set up in the wake of the 2013 Broadbeach bikie brawl, starred on Channel 10’s reality TV show Gold Coast Cops which aired in 2014 and 2015.
