A man who allegedly led police on a wild chase across Central Queensland on Tuesday has been arrested on the Capricorn Highway.

Police used road spikes to stop the sixth vehicle the man had allegedly stolen, a white Toyota Hilux, on the Capricorn Hwy near the CQLX.

Members of the public had earlier been urged to avoid the area as police planned to shut the highway and officers were posted across the region.

The crime spree began in Meikleville Street, Yeppoon where a Queensland Police spokesman said the man was allegedly carrying a knife and demanding to be let into a property.

He then left the area on foot before he allegedly stole a white Toyota LandCruiser from that street and drove towards Rockhampton.

At about 10.35am the LandCruiser was spotted allegedly driving erratically on George Street, sideswiping a vehicle in the Rockhampton area.

He then exited the LandCruiser where it’s alleged he stole a white Ford Ranger at around 11.15am.

He was spotted travelling on the Capricorn Highway at 12.40pm alleged to be driving at 116km/hr through Emerald.

Just after 2pm, it’s believed the man dumped the Ford Ranger at a property on the Capricorn Highway and he allegedly stole a Nissan Dualis.

He was spotted about an hour later in Anakie in a different car, a silver Isuzu MU-X.

It’s believed the man was injured when he was located by police just before 5pm in a fifth car after a reported carjacking incident.

Police attempted to “box him in” near Emerald.

It’s believed the man may have been involved in a crash near the Emerald TAFE.

A witness at the scene said the TAFE was temporarily sent into lockdown as a result of the incident.

It’s alleged the man was later onto his sixth car, a white Toyota HiLux utility, travelling out of Dingo before police set up road spikes.
