Boy, 16, killed as car overturns near Lockhart River

A 16-year-old boy has died in a car accident in the state’s far north overnight. Another injured teen was flown to hospital.

POLICE are investigating following a fatal traffic in Queensland’s far north overnight.

A 16-year-old boy died as a result of his injuries after the crash on Lockhart River Mission Rd at Lockhart River, 750km northwest of Cairns.

Police say five people were travelling in the car about 8.40 when it lost control and overturned.

The 16-year-old male passenger was taken to the Lockhart River Health Centre where he later died.

A 17-year-old boy as flown to Cairns Base Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Three others, including the 18-year-old male driver and two 16-year-old male passengers, were not injured

Investigations continue.
