The alleged armed fugitive who sparked a dramatic two-day manhunt and school lockdown on the Gold Coast has been hit with a new charge of making threats with intent to cause public alarm.
Mark Lutgenau, 37, was arrested by heavily armed police from the Special Emergency Response Team on Wednesday after two days on the run following an alleged violent domestic incident at Upper Coomera.
Ormeau State School was placed in lockdown and two public emergency declarations issued during the manhunt.
He was bitten by a police dog during his arrest at Nerang and taken to hospital.
Lutgenau first appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on 16 charges on Thursday, wearing a hospital gown and with his arm bandaged.
The case was adjourned so he could seek legal advice.
Lutgenau did not appear in person in court but was represented by a lawyer.
She said Lutgenau would not be applying for bail but had agreed to undergo a mental health assessment.
His mother told the The Courier-Mail she was relieved he was taken into custody without bloodshed.
