A 26-year-old woman was charged with attempted murder after police found a three-month-old infant with what appeared to be a stab wound to the abdomen in Ripley.

Around 5.30am Saturday, emergency services were called to a private home after reports of an alleged wounding.

Police immediately gave first aid to the child and took the 26-year-old woman who lives at the home with the child into custody.

The child was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The woman has been held in police custody and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on February 12.

A crime scene was declared at the house and investigations into the circumstances of the incident are continuing

A neighbour who wished to remain anonymous said when they woke up they saw multiple cop cars lining the street.

“We didn’t hear much I suspect because of how early it was but when we woke up outside it was just filled with police and ambos,” he said.

The neighbour said he often saw the family out on their lawn together.

Another neighbour said his wife saw police scouring through bins and drains.

“It is like they were looking for something,” he said.

“Nothing ever happens around here.”

More to come.
