Woman in a critical condition after car flips moments after police call off car pursuit over safety concerns

Police say they called off a car chase over safety concerns for the public, but just moments later, the car flipped and rolled on a southeast Queensland motorway, leaving the driver in a critical condition.

Wildest Aussie dashcam accidents

The Queensland Police Service’s ethical standards command is investigating after a driver was left critical when the car she was driving crashed moments after police called off a pursuit of the same vehicle.

The Courier-Mail understands police had followed a woman driving a red four-wheel drive in Logan yesterday afternoon, during what’s believed to be a police pursuit due to dangerous driving conditions.

Police made an attempt to intercept the vehicle before later calling off the chase due to safety concerns, as is in line with QPS policy.

The car travelled on without incident for some time before several minutes later police were alerted of a serious single-vehicle traffic crash in Bethania.

Officers were immediately made aware the crashed car was the same vehicle from the prior attempted intercept.

The crash is now being investigated by the ethical standards command, while the woman remains in a critical condition in hospital.

In a statement, police commented on the crash however did not allude to what took place in the moments prior.

“A woman is in a critical condition after a 4WD rolled at Bethania yesterday afternoon,” the statement said,

“Preliminary inquiries indicate around 4pm a red Jeep Wrangler was headed west on Logan River Road when the driver has lost control and the vehicle has rolled several times before coming to rest on the Albert Street off ramp.

“The driver, a 43-year-old Logan woman was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

“Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw the 4WD or has dashcam vision to contact police.”

The site of yesterday’s crash is less than 200m from where two people died after a crash in June last year, while the intersection is notorious for bingles and crashes.

Investigations continue, if you can help, contact police.
