Detectives have charged a man with murder following the stabbing death of a man at a south Cairns suburban home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police were called to a White Rock address at about 1.30am on May 10 after a man was allegedly stabbed in the back multiple times.
Police confirmed they have launched a murder investigation after Queensland Ambulance Services pronounced a 57-year-old White Rock man dead with multiple stab wounds to his back.
Edmonton Criminal Investigation Branch detectives charged a 66-year-old man on Wednesday.
Acting Inspector Jason Chetham confirmed the man charged with murder was involved in a verbal dispute at a Hollywood Boulevard property.
“We believe it's a residence that is occupied by the deceased, the man in custody and another female,” Insp Chatham said.
“There is no family relations but they all share the house together.
“The man has been arrested for the offence of murder...and the investigation is still continuing.”
Police confirmed they are speaking to residents around the area and are asking those with any information to come forward.
“Information provided to us indicates there were a number of altercations and arguments throughout the evening and throughout the morning,” Mr Chatham said.
White Rock resident Jeff Rufino said there had been ongoing disturbances at the Hollywood Boulevard property.
“Pretty much the last 48 hours people have been hearing screaming and arguing. There has been some bad energy in this area, especially around this house,” he said.
“It’s going to be a sad case when everyone finds this out from the news, they’re going to be so distressed.”
A crime scene has been declared at the property, and an investigations are continuing.
Bail for 66-year-old man has been denied ahead of his appearance in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information which could assist investigations to come forward.
