Police have ramped up their lockdown enforcement with massive RBT-style checkpoints on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane.
The ‘RBTs’ are expected to be set up at 13 locations across Brisbane to check that Queenslanders are on the road for the right reasons.
Police were also out on the Gold Coast this morning, with officers diverting vehicles off the Gold Coast Hwy at Surfers Paradise to perform checks on drivers and their passengers.
Police also set up a roadside Covid check-in along Logan Rd in Mount Gravatt to ensure locals were complying with lockdown restrictions.
About 15 police officers were directing traffic off the roads from about 8:15am.
“This is just one of a number of sites we have set up across south Brisbane district in relation to our traffic interceptions,” Acting Superintendent South Brisbane District Simon Tayler said.
“We’re targeting all ranges of offences and asking those really important health questions.”
Drivers can expect to be asked for their driver’s license, roadworthy, reason to travel and how far they are from their home to ensure it’s within the 10km perimeter.
Those leaving their house are also reminded to take a mask with them, however it doesn’t need to be worn while in the car.
“We’ve had very good compliance with people putting masks on and that’s all we’re asking,” Mr Tayler said.
“The virus can’t transmit if it’s not moving so we’re just making sure people are only out for those essential reasons.”
The blitz packed up after about an hour but with possible plans to return throughout the day or elsewhere across Brisbane.
Police confirmed some 1300 cars were intercepted throughout yesterday afternoon and into the evening in Brisbane.
