Two men spent hours huddled together in the cool night air after their jet ski became bogged in mud in Moreton Bay at the weekend.
The men were forced to sit and wait for an emergency airlift after the jet ski became trapped in shallow waters between Pannikin Island and Long Island on Saturday afternoon.
The pair had initially been on two individual jet skis however ended up sharing a single jet ski after the other broke down earlier in the day.
Several hours after becoming bogged in the muddy mangroves, the pair were rescued by helicopter – posting their ordeal to social media.
“Just waiting for a mate” one of the men said in a video posted online.
While in a separate video sometime later, the men said a chopper had been tasked to rescue them.
“Just talking to the SES waiting for a rescue chopper before we f***ing freeze to death,” one of the duo said.
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), one of the two men – both aged in their 20s- was in a critical condition when help eventually arrived.
“Rescue Helicopter responded to a location off Jacobs Well following a triple-0 call (000) at 6.33pm for a jetski which had run aground into mangroves some time earlier,” a statement from QAS said.
“Two males aged in their 20s were flown to Gold Coast University Hospital, one in a critical condition and the other in a stable condition both suffering from hypothermia.”
It’s understood the pair had contacted the water police earlier in the day who advised them to wait for the tide to change.
