Two Uber drivers have allegedly been assaulted by a group of teenagers in Brisbane’s north overnight, police have confirmed.
Brisbane Region Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus said two Uber drivers became involved in a violent altercation with seven young people outside a Chermside McDonald’s early Friday morning.
Police responded to reports a rideshare vehicle had been approached by a group of seven people while parked near the fast-food restaurant on Hamilton Road shortly after midnight.
McDonalds’ staff attempted to aid the man before the group exited the restaurant and approached a second rideshare driver in the carpark.
The group allegedly stole the second driver’s keys before getting into his vehicle and driving away.
Both drivers, and two staff from the restaurant, sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
Police tracked the vehicle as it travelled through Clayfield, Nundah and South Brisbane, before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device at Goodna about 1.40am.
The car came to a stop a short time later and police took seven teenagers aged 13 to 15 into custody.
