Two juveniles accused of a violent home invasion at the home of rugby great Toutai Kefu will face a trial in December, more than two years after the alleged attack.

The two youths were not present for the brief mention of their matter in the Brisbane Children’s Court on Tuesday.

The court heard the case was likely to proceed as a judge-alone trial in early December and is expected to run for two days.

Judge Deborah Richards heard one child is currently in custody and the other on bail.

Two other juvenile defendants were charged as a result of the incident at the Kefu home in August 2021.

The Courier-Mail is unable to report on the progress of those two accused co-offenders whose cases are presently before the Brisbane Supreme Court.

Media are already barred from identifying juvenile defendants by Queensland legislation but the case has been further suppressed with judges making orders prohibiting the publication of any information arising from the last two mentions of the case.

Four teens – three aged 15 and one just 13 at the time – were each charged with a number of offences including four counts of attempted murder following the bloody home invasion in 2021.

Police allege the youths, armed with weapons including a machete, an axe and a knife, broke into Mr Kefu’s home in the night to steal a car.

They were disturbed by Mr Kefu’s wife Rachel and allegedly attacked members of the family, including the couple and two of their adult children.

Due to the restrictions around reporting on juvenile court proceedings, it is unclear whether the four teens are still facing the same charges originally proffered by police.

The juveniles before the Childrens Court will have a further review of their case in September, followed by a trial review in November ahead of the December trial.
