Tributes for father-of-four Andy Jones after fatal scaffolding collapse at Mitchelton Football Club

The UK-based family of a dad-of-four killed by a scaffolding collapse while watching his son play soccer in Brisbane have begun the mammoth task of seeking entry into Australia.

Thousands of dollars have been raised to help pay the funeral costs of a Brisbane father-of-four tragically killed in a scaffolding collapse as he watched his son play soccer.

Andy Jones, from Bridgeman Downs in Brisbane’s north, died after scaffolding used by camera operators collapsed at Teralba Park in Everton Park on Sunday.

A Gofundme page was set up for the Jones family on Monday and had raised more than $7000 within seven hours.

Mr Jones’ parents and brother Chris Jones, who all live in the UK, have now begun the tumultuous task of seeking entry to Australia to reunite with their son’s family.

His wife Rhianne posted to Facebook that her 37-year-old husband was her best friend.

“We are absolutely devastated,” she said.

“He just went to watch his son play soccer and didn’t come home.”

A friend to the family described Mr Jones as “an amazing man and dad”.

Tributes have also begun flowing online for the football enthusiast.

“Rest in peace you incredible man. You will be so missed,” one person wrote.

“Absolutely devastated for the loss of this great man,” another wrote.

Mr Jones played in the over-35 Mitchelton Mustangs and spent his weekends at football games or getting outdoors with his family.

He regularly shared to social media his children’s achievements and how proud he was.

Mr Jones has family in the United Kingdom where he worked before transferring to the Queensland Police Service.

He most recently worked as a national commercial manager for SPS Facilities.

Mitchelton Football Club confirmed it had lost a member of its football community in the tragic incident.

The club has suspended all football related activities until Wednesday, July 28 with training sessions called off on Monday and Tuesday.

“This will provide the Club and members time to process the events of Sunday afternoon and out of respect for the members involved,” the club posted to Facebook.

“We ask that everyone respect the decision and also the privacy of players, coaches, friends and family impacted by the incident.”
