Nearly four years after a Logan father of five was fatally stabbed in a park, a trial date has been set down for the man charged with his murder.
Benjamin Suttie, 37, was returning from a night out with his adult son and his son’s friends when he was stabbed in the neck just 200m from his Woodridge home in August 2018.
His alleged killer Harley David Wegener was committed to stand trial over Mr Suttie’s death and a two-week trial will begin in October.
Mr Suttie’s mother Lesley Proctor told the Courier Mail that after years of mentions and legal proceedings her family was relieved to have a trial date.
“After waiting nearly four years, we are relieved to finally have a trial date to potentially get justice for Ben,” Ms Proctor said.
Mr Suttie was rushed to hospital after the stabbing and died three days later.
Wegener has been charged with murder, possessing a knife and going armed so as to cause fear.
A Beenleigh court heard in 2020 that the murder trial had been delayed by “hours and hours and hours” of CCTV footage that captured Wegener’s movements before the stabbing.
A trial review will be heard next month, with Wegener’s trial to begin on October 31.
