At least two of the four juveniles accused of committing a violent home invasion at rugby legend Toutai Kefu’s property are out on bail, it can be revealed.

The attempted murder cases against the four accused boys have been largely kept behind closed doors since the alleged incident in August 2021 due to youth justice reporting restrictions.

But a mention of two of the accused juveniles in the Children’s Court of Queensland on Thursday revealed that at least two of the boys are out on bail.

Four teens – three aged 15 and one just 13 at the time – were each charged with a number of offences including four counts of attempted murder following the bloody home invasion in 2021.

Police allege the youths, armed with weapons including a machete, an axe and a knife, broke into Mr Kefu’s home in the night to steal a car.

They were disturbed by Mr Kefu’s wife Rachel and allegedly attacked members of the family, including the couple and two of their adult children.

Due to the restrictions around reporting on juvenile court proceedings, it is unclear whether the four teens are still facing the same charges originally proffered by police.

At the mention this week, the court heard two of the alleged co-offenders are due to have their cases mentioned in the Brisbane Supreme Court in late May.

The crown asked for the matters before the Childrens Court to be adjourned to two days after the Supreme Court mention to allow the four defendants to have their cases married up.

It is unclear whether the two children facing charges in the Supreme Court are also on bail.
