One of the drunken cowboys involved in brazen raids on multiple outback pubs has apolgosied for his actions, blaming “a few too many beers”.
Caleb Dixon and an accomplice stole cash and beer from two Goondiwindi pubs in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
On Wednesday, Mr Dixon met with Toobeah Hotel Michael Offerdahl to apologise.
“I had a few too many beers, honestly. It was random and it shouldn’t have been done,” Mr Dixon said.
“It shouldn’t have been done, let alone to a pub like this, to a town like this and to a good bloke like Michael (the publican).
“I’m not like that, I don’t speak on anyone else’s terms so this is just me talking.
“I intend and I will repay everything in full by this week, I’ll have everything back for you and the cash too.”
Mr Dixon said he had never done anything like that in his life.
“I’ve got a beautiful wife at home, I’ve got a family,” he said.
“It affects them more than yourself, if you do, love your family, don’t be doing dumb s**t. Keep it at home or keep it in the clubs.”
Footage posted online by the Toobeah Hotel showed the pair using a crowbar to break into the till before casually walking with their shirts tied over their heads.
“They just cruised in here about 2am in the morning, came in, destroyed the tills, stole a heap of p-ss and durries and all the cash,” Mr Offerdahl said.
“They just kicked in the back door, pushed it in a spot we are renovating there.
“They had obviously been through the pub and knew where they were going.”
Mr Offerdahl said he believed the total amount stolen was around $6000.
“They’ve just gone completely rogue. Even going through the footage, they don’t actually look like they’ve done a lot of crime before,” he said.
“They dropped stuff on the floor and pick it up and put it back away, then tried to make it look like they sort of hadn’t been there.
“Other than smashing the tills apart, the bastards even shut the door behind them.”
Police are investigating after the two also broke into a storage container at the Railway Hotel about 12.50am, stealing a carton of beer.
Less than an hour later they hit the Toobeah Hotel.
