Tingalpa man arrested and charged over spate of carjackings

A man has been arrested after a month-long spate of violent carjackings across Brisbane targeting luxury vehicles.

A Tingalpa man accused of three armed carjackings in a month has been arrested and charged by police.

The 28-year-old allegedly started his offending on June 21 by threatening the male driver of a Mercedes station wagon with a hammer before stealing the vehicle.

The following day, police allege the man abandoned the Mercedes on Dasyure Place at Wynnum West before threatening a woman who was driving a Nissan Qashqai.

He stole her car, which was later found abandoned at Woolloongabba on June 22.

Five days later, the man allegedly threatened another driver – a man driving a Mercedes Benz sedan on Creek Rd in Carindale – before stealing that car.

Officers from police taskforce Operation Uniform Sam raided a Tingalpa home on July 18 and arrested the 28-year-old man.

A search of the property revealed a “significant” amount of stolen property, including the Mercedes sedan allegedly stolen from Carindale.

The man was charged with 28 offences, including three counts of armed robbery, two counts of burglary, five counts of stealing and four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He is expected to appear before the Wynnum Magistrates Court on Thursday.
