A teenager and two men have been charged with murder after a man was shot dead and several other people injured in a terrifying Ipswich street brawl.
Police say Carlo Piero Stewart, 31, died after allegedly receiving two bullet wounds in an altercation between two groups on Baden Jones Way in North Booval about 5pm on Tuesday.
Four other people were hospitalised after the incident.
One man, 29, remains in a critical condition in the Princess Alexandra Hospital with severe head injuries.
A 16-year-old boy, 28-year-old Logan man and a 24-year-old North Booval man have each been charged with one count of murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.
The trio will appear in Ipswich Courts on Thursday.
Police say the violent fight, witnessed by children and nearby residents, is believed to have been sparked over a property dispute between two groups of people known to each other. Detectives would not comment on what the property at the centre of the fight was.
Specialist police and police dogs were late on Wednesday searching for a number of people believed to be involved in the street skirmish, as detectives continued to unravel varying versions of information.
Heartbreakingly, only months ago Mr Stewart vowed to turn his life around after court records show he was in January forced to pay $900 after pleading guilty to three minor drug related offences.
“I’ve done alot (sic) of bad in my past,” he wrote in April.
“But I have definitely left that behind me.
“And people that know me know I have a huge heart of gold and I will do or help anyone in need.”
He said he has “always believed in karma and doing good …”
As news of the Logan car detailer’s death filtered through the community, a loved one shared a photo online saying he felt as though his “heart had been ripped out”.
“Words cannot describe how I am feeling right now, it’s like somebody’s ripped out my heart and jumped on it,” the man said.
“You’ll forever be in my heart, please know I love you so much and I wish I got to say it to you one more time. Rest in peace brother.”
Speaking about the incident early on Wednesday, Ipswich Detective Acting Inspector Heath McQueen said the alleged attack was targeted and prearranged.
He assured the community there was no threat to residents, and the two groups involved were known to each other.
“A number of people are assisting us with our inquiries who are involved in the incident however there are a number of people who have been uncooperative as well,” Insp McQueen said.
