The identities of three men accused of a stabbing attack on a Brisbane family that left a dog dead allegedly over an e-scooter can be revealed after they appeared in court.
Alex Edward Deng, 20, of Darra, Aron Nsengiyumva , 21 of Redbank and John Wal Wal, 24, of Goodna have each been charged with two counts of wounding and one count each of serious animal cruelty, attempt to enter premises and threatening violence. Deng and Nsengiyumva have also been charged with possessing counterfeit money.
Police will allege the incident began on Sunday afternoon when two of the men went to the home to purchase a $2000 e-scooter after seeing an ad for it on social media.
It’s alleged the men tried to give the sellers counterfeit cash and they refused to hand over the e-scooter.
Police will allege the men later returned, scaling the home’s back fence armed with machetes, knives, and what appeared to be a black handgun – which was later found to be a gel-blaster.
It’s alleged they demanded the e-scooter and began smashing the rear glass doors of the property to try and entice the occupants to come outside.
Police will allege the men then fatally stabbed the owners’ dog to further entice them outside.
The residents then ran outside and a struggle has taken place in the yard, where a 33-year-old resident and a 30-year-old resident were allegedly stabbed, while a 20-year-old man who also lived at the house suffered some minor injuries.
People living at the house then armed themselves with shovels and attacked the alleged intruders, leaving them with multiple injuries before they fled the scene.
Nsengiyumva and Deng had their cases mentioned briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Nsengiyumva’s face was swollen with cuts and bruises. He did not apply for bail and was on a return to prison warrant.
Deng did not appear and did not apply for bail.
Both matters were adjourned to July 24.
Nsengiyumva is also charged with attempt to enter dwelling and two counts of attempted robbery. Deng has also been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis, alprazolam and methylamphetamine)
Wal Wal appeared in Richlands Magistrates Court. His matter was adjourned to October.
