Queensland health facilities have been caught up in a series of bomb threats similar to multiple scares designed to cause chaos at cities throughout the world.
Queensland Police are aware of threats that have been made to multiple health and medical facilities across the state on Thursday morning.
Specialist officers are currently liaising with partner agencies to ascertain how many facilities have received this threat and its validity.
It is believed that Hospital and Health Services in the state are monitoring the threats and if there is any danger will call a Code Purple. No hospitals had been evacuated by Thursday afternoon.
Code Purple activation is due to bomb or substance threats from written, verbal or electronic sources
Police were called to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital about 12.30pm after it was reported a suspicious package was found.
Police attended the scene and on arrival it was a false alarm and a bag of food was located instead.
In the past 24 hours random bomb threats have been sent to hundreds of facilities in Canada and India.
At least 100 hospitals and shopping malls across Delhi received bomb threats in emails which caused bomb squads to be deployed. The threats were declared a hoax.
Dozens of Jewish institutions across Canada received similar emails early saying bombs would be detonated. No bombs were found.
