Teens charged with 70 offences, six cars stolen in Ipswich crime spree

A group of teenagers have been charged with more than 70 offences after a crime spree across South East Queensland where they stole six cars in one day and assaulted an aged care worker.

A group of teenagers have been charged with more than 70 offences after a crime spree across Ipswich where they stole six cars in one day and assaulted an aged care worker.

Police will allege their spree began at 3am on March 16 when five teenagers broke into a Farley Street home in Boonah and stole a 2011 Toyota Prado.

At 4.30am, the group - aged between 13 and 16 years old - then allegedly broke into a Hudson Street home in Kalbar and stole a white Nissan Qashqai.

The group then waited until 9pm to steal four vehicles in less than two hours.

Police will allege the cars were stolen from Mt Alford, Dugandan and Boonah between 9pm and 10.40pm.

About 11pm, the group then drove to an aged care facility on Harold Stark Ave at Boonah where one boy broke into a car.

A 40-year-old female aged care worker confronted the boy in the act, but he assaulted her and drove off. She suffered minor injuries.

Just after midnight on March 17, police found the stolen Toyota Prado abandoned at Raceview.

A short time later officers located the Nissan at a shopping centre on Raceview, and saw five youths running from the car on foot.

Officers and the dog squad chased after the group and arrested four of the five youths, charging them with a combined 73 offences.

A 16-year-old Tarragindi girl has been charged with 15 offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary, assault, enter premises and commit indictable offence, robbery in company and receiving tainted property.

She is due to appear in the Ipswich Children’s Court on May 6.

A 13-year-old Bellbird Park boy has been charged with 19 offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary, enter with intent, assault, robbery in company and receiving tainted property.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Ipswich Children’s Court on May 6.

A 13-year-old Gailes boy has been charged with 15 offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, attempted robbery and receiving tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Children’s Court on March 24.

A 14-year-old Sunnybank boy has been charged with 24 offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, assault, and attempted robbery.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Ipswich Children’s Court on May 6.

Investigations remain ongoing.
