Teens charged after Uber driver attacked with hammers

Two boys have been charged over the alleged assault of a rideshare drivers with hammers near an inner Brisbane park.

Two boys have been charged after they allegedly assaulted and robbed a rideshare driver at Brisbane’s Taringa early on Wednesday morning.

About 3.20am, the rideshare driver – a 51-year-old man – responded to a booking at Robertson Park on Indooroopilly Rd.

Police have alleged on arrival the man was approached by a man who confirmed the booking and entered the vehicle.

The man allegedly immediately began attacking the driver with hammers, along with two other boys who got inside the vehicle.

The driver was forcibly removed from the vehicle, with the males driving off in the car.

A 15-year-old and 17-year-old boy were located at Loganholme south of Brisbane on Thursday afternoon and charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of deprivation of liberty, robbery in company and stealing.

They were both denied police bail and are were expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

The rideshare vehicle was found in Logan and the driver sustained serious head injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, but has since been released.

The investigation is ongoing in relation to others who may be involved in this offence.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are appealing for witnesses or dashcam in the area around the time of the robbery.
